For the last decade, I’ve almost always brought my lunch to work because it was not only cheaper and more convenient than driving to a lunch spot but it also helped me become a better cook along the way. So if there’s one thing I can really help you out with, it’s high protein meals you can batch once and eat all week. This page has 30 of my favorite high-protein meal prep recipes that I’ve made throughout the years and I’ve ordered the list by my own recommendations, so the recipes at the top are the ones I would recommend giving a try first if you’re not sure.

Why This List Works
- Most of the full meals on this list come in at 27 grams or more with some even in the 50s for a true high protein meal.
- You end up with at least 4 meals for most of these with the potential to stretch them out further if needed.
- Most of them take under 45 minutes to make and if there’s a long slow cooker recipe involved, the prep time is minimal.
- I tried to keep the flavors spread out too, with sandwiches, tacos, burgers, salads, and soup in the mix. Meal prep should never have to be plain chicken, broccoli and rice.
What This List Is Built For
- Meal preppers chasing a daily protein target who want each meal around 20 grams of protein or higher.
- People who do one big Sunday batch (like I do myself) and still want a great tasting meal by Thursday.
- Weeknight cooks who need dinner in under 30 minutes but still want it to taste like a real meal.
- This list has a variety of options for every texture, from crispy tenders to soup to creamy rice bowls.
- The list is ordered by my own recommendations, so the top of the page is where I’d start if it were my week to meal prep my meals.

Before You Start Cooking
-
Pick by how much work you want to do
Some of these run themselves while you’re at work, like the high protein slow cooker recipes on the list. The air fryer ones are the next easiest, and the no-cook options like the Dense Bean Salad only take about 25 minutes of your time. I just pick based on what the day looks like.
-
Use the list like a menu
Pick one dinner, one lunch, and a couple of easy backups and you’ve got five days covered without repeating chicken and rice. Mixing a crunchy option like the Baked Chicken Nuggets with a creamy one like the Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken & Rice keeps things interesting too.
-
Some of these taste better on day two
The Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches, the Gochujang Korean Chicken Bowls, and the Sweet Potato BBQ Shepherd’s Pie all soak up the sauce and come out better when you reheat them the next day. I usually make these two days ahead on purpose.
-
Reheat for crunch
If you’re reheating the air fryer recipes, like the Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken Tenders or the Almond Flour Parmesan Chicken Tenders, put them back in the air fryer at 400 degrees for three to four minutes. The microwave works in a pinch, but the coating goes soft and you lose the whole point.
-
More fish if you want
This list has two fish dishes on it. If salmon is your thing, I have a separate list of high protein salmon recipes you can check out. The One Pan Salmon & Veggies here covers the easiest sheet pan option in the meantime.
FAQs
-
Which high-protein meal prep recipe on this list has the most protein?
The Chicken Pesto Sandwich leads at 70 grams of protein per serving, and the Cilantro Lime Chicken is close behind at 63 grams. If you want something that batch cooks, the Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken & Rice gives you 57 grams per bowl.
-
Are these high-protein meal prep recipes ordered by nutrition?
They’re ordered by my own recommendations, so the recipes at the top are the ones I’d make first. If you want to sort by macros yourself, the Quick Comparison table has the calories and protein for all 30 recipes.
-
Which of these recipes hold up best in the fridge?
The Dense Bean Salad keeps for up to 5 days and honestly tastes better after it sits. The Southwest Chicken Salad Meal Prep is built around five containers in about an hour, and the Cottage Cheese Mac & Cheese holds for 3 to 4 days.
-
How do I build a 7-day high-protein meal prep week from this list?
Grab one slow cooker dish, one air fryer dinner, and one no-cook lunch. The Slow Cooker Creamy Chicken & Rice, the Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken Tenders, and the Dense Bean Salad give you three very different meals with about an hour of hands-on work total. Rotate the sides and the rest of the list works as backup high protein dinner recipes on the nights the containers run out.
-
Do I need special equipment for these meal prep recipes?
Not really. Most of them only need an oven or a skillet. The air fryer recipes work in the oven with a little more time, and the slow cooker dishes, like the Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches, are the easiest batch cooks on the list since the pot does the work.
-
Are there vegetarian meal prep options on this list?
Only one of the 30: the Cottage Cheese Mac & Cheese, which carries 34 grams of protein per serving with no meat or fish. The Dense Bean Salad looks like a contender but it actually uses canned chicken breast. So for a full week of high protein vegetarian meal prep, you’ll need to look beyond this list, since only the mac and cheese clears the bar here.
